Data Science in Health Care Workshop
The Data Science in Health Care Workshop was held in Bilik Serbaguna, Faculty of Medicine, UM. Participants were exposed to the concept of big data analytics and machine learning. The application of Wolfram Mathematica 11 software was shown through discussion of various healthcare case studies and demonstration. The differences between Wolfram Mathematica 11 and SPSS were explained. All participants managed to install a free Wolfram Mathematica 11 software.

3rd eHealth journal club
Presenter: CHIEW Thiam Kian
CHEW  gave a brief introduction to the history of software engineering, explain the software development life cycle (SDLC) and models, challenges in developing software systems and how qualities of software systems can be measured. Issues in developing software systems will be discussed, especially in the era of resurgence of artificial intelligence (AI) that brings “creative destruction” to virtually every discipline of knowledge, including software engineering.

The 4th University of Malaya eHealth Initiatives (UMeHI) Steering Committee Meeting meeting was held. 3 researchers from Faculty of Medicine, 2 researchers from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) and 1 representative from UMCH Technology Sdn. Bhd. attended the meeting. The committees presented on the progress of each tracks and discussed about the proposed activities for 2018.

LIEW explained the concept of big data and how it can be applied to healthcare. This journal club served as a platform for clinicians, eHealth researchers and computer scientists to debate issues pertaining to big data technology and explore potential collaborations in using big data for research and to improve patient care.

The 2nd University of Malaya eHealth Initiatives (UMeHI) Steering Committee Meeting meeting was held. 6 researchers from Faculty of Medicine, 3 researchers from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) and 1 representative from UMCH Technology Sdn. Bhd. attended the meeting. The committees discussed on the details for setting up the Centre for eHealth. Activities are being proposed for each track.

Project “Don’t cry for me Baby” shortlisted for Telemedicine Innovation Challenge 2017
The project entitled “Don’t cry for me Baby” was shortlisted for Telemedicine Innovation
Challenge 2017, which is held in conjunction with Malaysia Telemedicine Conference 2017 on
15-17 August 2017, Sunway Medical Centre. The project is a collaborative project between
Department of Biomedical Engineering (Dr. Ting Hua Nong, Mr. Yong Boon Fei), Department of
Biomedical Imaging (Prof. Ng Kwan Hoong) and Department of Paediatrics (Assoc. Prof Choo
Yao Mun, Dr. Azanna Ahmad Kamar, Dr. Yip Ke Xin). The teams are developing a mobile
app, which is able to recognize the reason of baby cry such as hunger, pain, diaper change, cold
and discomfort. They are studying crying as a mean of earliest communication by neonates.

University of Malaya eHealth Initiatives (UMeHI) Steering Committee Meeting
The first University of Malaya eHealth Initiatives (UMeHI) Steering Committee Meeting meeting was held. 8 researchers from Faculty of Medicine, 4 researchers from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) and 1 representative from UMCH Technology Sdn. Bhd. attended the meeting. The committees decided that regular ehealth journal club will be conducted and a website will be developed to disseminate information about ehealth activities in UM. A visit to UMMC IT department has also been organised for the FCSIT team to understand more about the electronic medical record system.

UM FOM eHealth Meeting
A group of UM academicians from Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology gathered to discuss ways to promote and disseminate ICT in healthcare. The group agreed that a center for ehealth should be set up and a steering committee will be formed to lead this.
